A.W.O.L. - A Work of Love
A.W.O.L., or "A Work Of Love," is First Baptist Church's ministry for people aged 55 and older. AWOL meets needs and interesst through information and fellowship, and our experienced volunteers fill many positions and responsibilities throughout the church. AWOL also offers a wide range of special services including a monthly social luncheon and organizes opportunities to reach out into the community through Christmas projects serving the needy, working with homeless veterans, and more. Our members contribute to each other and all of the church from an abundance of talent, leadership, experience, and wisdom.

Senior Adult Wind Orchestra - Mondays (Sept - May)
Musicians, remember how much fun you had playing in band or orchestra? Come enjoy that fun again with this small group. We hope to add strings in the future. Rehearsals are Mondays from 9:30-10:30am in Rushing Hall.

The following regular activities are currently on hold:

Weekly

SonShine Singers - Tuesday Mornings (Resumes Nov 3)
Our Senior Adult Choir, the SonShine Singers, is a large group of people who love to sing the Lord's praises. We have had the opportunity to do so at several Senior Adult Conferences, including Glorietta (New Mexico), and in Belton and Palacios (Texas). On Tuesday, November 3rd, we will resume meeting Tuesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 in Rushing Hall and would love for you to join us, no matter your level of experience, in singing God's praises with joy and love!

Senior Adult Handchimes - Tuesdays (Sept - May)
Join us for practice each Tuesday from 11:15 to 12:00 in Rushing Hall. For more information, contact Tom Wideman.

Silver Star Puppets - Tuesdays (Sept - May)
Our Senior Adult Puppet Team, the Silver Star Puppets, performs at schools, nursing homes, churches, and in the town square at Wassailfest every December. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30pm in Rushing Hall.

Monthly

A.W.O.L. Social Luncheon (September - May)
We have a social luncheon for all senior adults once a month, usually the third Thursday of the month at noon in Rushing Hall. We offer all sorts of neat programs including local performers, missionaries, informational presentations for seniors, and much more. We've also had themed luncheons, catered Christmas banquets, and luncheons including all the senior adults from the entire Baptist Association. The Sunday school classes of FBC typically provide the potluck (with lots of desserts, including sugar free!), and there is no charge, except for the catered Christmas and Valentine's Banquet each year.*
* The Christmas and Valentine's Banquets are catered events, and tickets are typically $5 and go on sale 2-3 weeks before the banquet.

42 Tournament
Monthly domino tournament. 42 is a domino game that is played like a card game using dominoes with a twist. You will enjoy a good game and fellowship. Tournaments are typically every fourth Friday of each month, with a few exceptions, from 5:30-9:00pm in Rushing Hall.

Senior Adult Men's Breakfast (September - May)
First Thursday of every month from 7:30-8:30 am in the Gym.
Join us for a hot and hearty breakfast, fellowship, and testimonies of how God is working. We'll be serving biscuits, gravy, sausage, and eggs, along with juice and coffee.

Special Events

Senior Adult Retreat
For three days every spring (usually late March or early April) the senior adults head to Alto Frio Baptist Encampment near Leaky, TX. Special guest preacher, intimate worship, beautiful scenery, lots of games, delicious food...you won't want to miss it!

Missions
We have several mission projects throughout the year, including (but not limited to) working with homeless veterans in San Antonio, helping several families throughout the year (especially around the holidays), and helping take care of our church home as well. We work hard having fun and have fun working hard. It always feels like we are more blessed by the experience than those we are serving! So keep your eye on the church calendar, and keep your ears open in Sunday school to hear about our next projects!
