Handbells
Handbells
Ringing bells in praise to the Lord dates back hundreds of years. The Handbell Choir of First Baptist meets on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00. Under the direction of Wally Black, a nationally published playwright, composer, and arranger, the Handbell Choir performs on an occasional basis.
The Handbell Choir represents the church in public events such as "Wassailfest," as well as having rung in places such as Natural Bridge Caverns.
The Handbell choir is a non-auditioned group, but the ability to read and count music is more pronounced than in most other performing groups. Although there are only thirteen positions on a four-octave handbell table, we always have a need for substitute and "floating" ringers.
